When Music Holds Us: Singing Through Bereavement & in End of Life Care (in person event in Bristol)
About the event
We often turn to music in the hardest moments of our lives – when we feel lonely, sad or afraid, or words are hard to find. When we are grieving or nearing the end of life, music and singing can offer solace, helping us express and access emotion, ease anxiety and stay connected to people we love. Singing can also bring a powerful sense of community. It creates spaces where feelings can be shared, and where we can feel seen, heard and less alone.
This panel discussion will explore the extraordinary power of music to comfort and sustain us through these most tender experiences. Bringing together Valerie Russell Emmott from Bristol’s Companion Voices, Jannah Warlow from Grief Choir, and music therapist and researcher Kate Binnie, the session will also include a live demonstration from Companion Voices, a group who sing for people towards the end of life.
