Professor Emma Hornby

Emma Hornby is a Professor of Music at the University of Bristol. She studies Christian chant and liturgy from the early middle ages, and is particularly interested in how music and text can combine to facilitate particular devotional responses, including expressing grief and remembrance. She conducts the university’s Schola Cantorum, a student choir that focuses on medieval music, contemporary art music, and the intersections between them.
