Toni Giselle Stuart

Toni Giselle Stuart is a South African poet, performer and spoken word educator.

Her work centres around healing and freedom, listening for the forgotten and buried histories and ‘herstories’ of mixed/Coloured/creole South Africans then re-imagining and rewriting them so we can see and know ourselves as whole.

Toni’s work has been published in anthologies, journals and non-fiction books locally and internationally. She collaborates and performs across disciplines with filmmakers, musicians, visual artists and dancers.

Toni has an MA Writer/ Teacher from Goldsmiths, University of London, where she was a Chevening Scholar in 2014 to 2015. In 2013 she featured in the Guardian list of 200 inspiring Young South Africans.

Toni founded and ran a youth poetry programme, Athlone Young Poets in Cape Town in 2018; was the founding facilitator of Barbican Junior Poets in London in 2015; and was the founding curator of Poetica at Open Book Festival in 2013.
