The Messy Side of Grief: What We Learnt from Loss (Course Launch Session)
About the event
This is the live session of the Grief Academy course When Grief Is Complicated.
There are many ways grief can be complicated – a goodbye you never got to say, grieving alone among people who don’t understand, or working out how to stay connected to the person who died while making room for what comes next.
To relaunch our When Grief Is Complicated course, we’re honoured to welcome two women who know all this from the inside: Dr Lucy Hone and Amber Jeffrey.
After her 12-year-old daughter Abi died in a car accident, resilience researcher Lucy was confronted with the questions she had spent her career studying: what actually helps when life is shattered, and how do we find a way through? Learning from her own story and those of others, her answers became the bestselling books Resilient Grieving and How Can I Ever Get Through This?, as well as one of the most-watched TED talks of all time.
Amber was just 19 when her mother died suddenly, leaving her isolated among friends who couldn’t relate. Three years later she started The Grief Gang podcast, now a global community of people who get it.
In this live session, Amber and Lucy will talk about what helped, what they wish they’d known sooner, and how they’ve each built a life alongside loss.
The session is part of When Grief Is Complicated, our on-demand course on why grief can feel so hard and what helps. Sign up to join us live on 30 September and get six months’ access to seven recorded sessions with leading grief experts including Prof. Mary-Frances O’Connor, Julia Samuel MBE and Prof. Robert Neimeyer. Can’t make it live? The recording will be added to the course.
