About the event

Brunswick Room, Blackpool Central Library, Queen Street, Blackpool, FY1 1PX

Create something to keep, explore and make your own.

Join artist Lisa Wigham for a relaxed, hands-on workshop exploring how a handmade journal can become a space for reflection, creativity and remembering.

Lisa will guide you through the journal she has created especially for Good Grief Blackpool, sharing ideas and gentle prompts to help you explore your own thoughts, feelings, memories and experiences. You’ll have the opportunity to make the journal your own, adding your own marks, words, images, textures and ideas while learning some simple book-art techniques from Lisa.

There’s no right or wrong way to use the journal. You can write, draw, doodle, collect, reflect or simply play with the pages.

No artistic experience is needed. Come along, make something with your hands, take some time for yourself and discover how your journal might become a place to hold thoughts, memories and whatever you want to carry forward.

All materials and aprons will be provided but please wear suitable clothing for using inks and glue. The workshop is open for adults only, but beginners are welcome. If you would benefit from support using tools such as scissors, you are welcome to bring someone else along with you – please just drop us a line to let us know.

About the artist

Lisa has been making handmade books since 1997, originally under the name The Two a.m. Press, and has more recently created journals for wellbeing projects. Bringing together the traditional ‘endangered crafts’ of printmaking, bookbinding and sign painting, her work combines words, illustration and book-making to create objects that are both beautiful and personal.  She also produces works for galleries and public places such as murals, installations and sign paintings for stage and film sets.

You can read more about her work on her website.

Access information: Fully accessible venue with step-free access, lift and accessible toilets. Hearing loop available.
