About the event

Blackpool Central Library

In this ceramic workshop, artists Michael Cassidy and Sue Flowers guide participants to use porcelain clay to make their own vessel as an object of remembrance and hope.

Mike and Sue will share some of their work and explore how they have used creative processes to deal with bereavement and other challenging life circumstances. They will also introduce the idea of lachrymatory bottles or tear catchers, which were found in Roman and late Greek tombs.

Every vessel made during the workshop will be fired, glazed and returned to its maker.

All materials will be provided, but please bring an apron or old shirt to wear. The workshop is suitable for everyone aged twelve and older. All children must be accompanied by an appropriate adult.

About the artists: Mike is a Blackpool-based freelance artist with his own ceramic studio on Whitegate Drive.

Sue is an artist and Co-investigator on the Coastal Community & Creative Health project. She studied 3D design ceramics and runs the arts organisation Green Close:

Access information: Fully accessible venue with step-free access, lift and accessible toilets. Hearing loop available.
