As Lucy, Sheena and Lynsey explain, course participants will hear from leading bereavement experts: neuroscientist and psychologist Professor Mary-Frances O’Connor (author of The Grieving Body and The Grieving Brain), psychotherapist Julia Samuel MBE (bestselling author of Grief Works and Every Family Has a Story), Andy Langford (Clinical Director at Cruse Bereavement Support), Dr Catherine Millington-Sanders (RCGP and Marie Curie National End of Life Care Clinical Lead) and Lynne Innes RN (Nurse, Healthcare Chaplain and Bereavement Educator at NHS Education for Scotland).

Grief and Bereavement in Primary Care will equip clinicians with the skills and knowledge to navigate complex conversations about grief, death and the end of life, with an emphasis on real-world strategies that can be integrated into primary care settings. It will cover the mental and physical effects of bereavement (including in complex circumstances such as when a child dies, or death by suicide), issues of equity and identity, and ways to support patients with disenfranchised grief, anticipatory grief and Prolonged Grief Disorder (PGD). Course participants will also gain insights into their own self-care, as many healthcare professionals are personally impacted by grief and bereavement.

‘Grief and Bereavement in Primary Care course’ has been approved by the Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom for 4 category 1 (external) CPD credit(s).
