Sarah Helton
Sarah has worked in the field of special educational needs/disabilities (SEND) for nearly 30 years, most recently as the Assistant Head Teacher of a special school in Dorset. Having worked with many bereaved children, she developed an interest in the grief of children with learning disabilities and how we can best support them. She now works as BackPocketTeacher, a consultant, author, and trainer in the field of bereavement, grief, and loss for individuals with SEND. Sarah has recently completed a PhD at Kingston University (supervised by Prof. Irene Tuffrey-Wijne), where her research examined how children with severe or profound learning disabilities communicate grief. Sarah is the author of the books A Special Kind of Grief, Remembering Lucy and A Jumble of Knotted Thoughts and the creator of Good Grief Toys®.
