Dr Ray Owen
Dr Ray Owen is a consultant clinical psychologist and health psychologist with over 30 years’ experience of working in physical health settings within the NHS and hospice sectors. He has mostly worked with serious illnesses, end-of-life care and bereavement, and has a special interest in applying ‘third-wave’ approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in these contexts.
Ray has taught and supervised extensively on the psychology of physical health and grief, and is the author of two successful self-help books published by Routledge: Facing the Storm: Using CBT Mindfulness and Acceptance to Build Resilience When Your World’s Falling Apart (2nd Edn, 2023) and Living with the Enemy: Coping with the Stress of Chronic Illness (2014). Both were shortlisted for the BMA Popular Medicine Book of the Year Award. Ray’s new book for grief therapists – The ACT of Grieving: How the Psychological Flexibility Approach Can Help You Support People in Loss – will be released by Guilford Press later this year.
