A spotlight On: End of life care for people with neurological conditions (dementia and motor neurone disease)
About the event
In the first half of this session we will be focusing on the palliative and end of life care needs for people with dementia. Learn about how research evidence has been successfully used to create interventions for people with dementia.
If you are only interested in hearing about dementia, you are welcome to exit the call after the first half of the session is finished, at approximately 14:30.
In the second half of this session we will be focusing on the palliative and end of life care needs for people with motor neurone disease. Marie Curie and the MND Association came together to fund research to identify and address the palliative care needs of people with MND and their carers. Learn about how research evidence was used to create an online decision aid for gastrostomy.
If you are only interested in hearing about motor neurone disease, you are welcome to join at 14:30 for the second half of the session.
This session will include the following presentations:
- Rules of thumb to support palliative dementia care in Manchester: Development and evaluation with Dr Nathan Davies (University College London) and Gill Bailey (Greater Manchester and Eastern Cheshire Strategic Clinical Networks)
- Selected abstracts on end of life care for people with dementia
- The DiAMoND decision aid: Supporting people living with motor neurone disease to make the difficult decision about having a gastrostomy tube with Dr Sally Wheelwright (University of Sussex) & Jennifer Bedford (Motor Neurone Disease Association)
- Selected abstracts on end of life care for people with motor neurone disease
